Photographer

I was born in the Sahrawi refugee camps. I studied primary schools in the camps and went to Algeria to study higher education. I am a photographer. I practice this art. I usually photograph people in places and situations where they live. Scenes of difficult situations compel me to raise awareness about my people. I want the world to see that these people need help. The world needs to understand that not everyone live the same way. I hope that people can see from my photographs that there are many people who really don’t have much. Like people in the refugee camps. I want to convey these notions to the world. The people in my community and their stories inspire me to make more photos. I joined Sand and Vision Photography Workshops in 2017 and 2018 and was able to capture many interesting photos. Photography can communicate more than words. A photograph can capture deeper meanings. And the viewers can connect with photos on different levels. Sometimes, they don’t even need words for it. This photograph is an intimate moment of my mother as she kisses the head of my niece. A casual moment in our daily life. It was a cold day at home, and mom was sitting in the sun to warm herself and my niece. She was teaching her the Alphabets and playing with her. It was an amazing authentic moment of mom and my niece, just being themselves. I am very happy that I had my camera with me to capture it. It tells about love and family. Despite the refugee situation, there is still space for love and family moments.
