Mohamed Salem Mohamed Ali (Short bio)
Artist / Filmmaker / Environmental Practitioner
Mohamed Salem is an award-winning environmental artist, filmmaker and farmer. He was born in Samara camps. He now experiments with farming in the camps and he makes short films about his practices. He runs The Nomad Garden in Samara camp, an experimental site where he combines growing plants, producing food and telling his story through film. His first film The Nomad Garden has won the third prize in FiSahara International Film Festival. His garden practices are changing the microclimate and are responding to the environmental challenges he faces in Samara camp. Together with the environmental activists in Asaba cooperative, they meet, exchange and share solutions with the community and help others set up gardens. He organizes workshops for kids to help them grow plants in the local kindergarten in his local neighborhood among many other cultural activities, collaborations and projects.
