Mina Mohamed (Short bio)
Painter / Calligrapher / Illustrator
Born in Mahbas neighborhood, Samara Camps in 1995. I took my education in the Algerian city of Sayda. Then I did my Baccalaureate in Mascara, Algeria. I studied Marketing at Skikda University and graduated in 2019. I now work at Bubisher Library in Samara Camp. My father brought me art books when I was a kid for me to learn. I also had a cousin who was an artist and he encouraged me to draw. When I went to school, I used to copy the illustrations from science books. When I went to the university, I started to devote more time to art. I now practice art and writing. I joined ten other female writers to co-author a book. And I did all the illustrations for the book. I write a lot about the tea ceremony. I contributed to other children’s books with texts and arts. For this work, I chose these kinds of strong colors, which I like. I am being inspired by the sunset in the desert. I draw moments in my life where the colors are the strongest. Tea is part of our daily life. It brings the family together. This was a moment when our family decided to make tea outside the camp. We went for a picnic because the camp is getting crowded so we escaped the noise to seek quiet moments in the wilderness. It’s also a moment to enjoy sand dunes, the air and tea.
