Calligrapher / Scrin print Artist

I was born in the occupied zone of Samara, Western Sahara. I have always been in the creative business up to date. I keep working between painting, calligraphy and screen-printing. I took part in different cultural events and exhibitions in different parts of Algeria as well as in ARTifariti festival, which takes place in the Sahrawi refugee camps annually. I often use symbols that refer to the Sahrawi people and represent the Sahrawi heritage such as camels, tents and many other traditional materials unique to the Sahrawi. It’s also a way to help preserve these cultural items. I create this kind of art because the Sahrawi people can no longer access many of their traditions because of the displacement. And I use canvases, even t-shirts and bags to screen print these symbols. We have created many stencil symbols of camels, tents and other objects to print. I work with a team of others who also screen-print. We started working in Sahara Libre Wear workshop in 2011. There is another female artist with me and she also screen-prints on different materials. We also organize small exhibitions in the workshop, as there are very few opportunities where we can exhibit.
